The new building of the main railway station was officially opened at the end of October 2023, and was built with the highest standards in passenger rail traffic in mind.

The new Belgrade Centre railway station has an area of around 5,600 square meters, a height of 26 meters, with a roof structure length of 80 and a width of 63 meters.

The design took various aspects such as stability, fire protection, hygiene, health and environmental protection, safety and accessibility, noise protection, and the sustainable use of natural resources into account. Additionally, to reduce noise and vibrations when operating travellators, escalators, and lifts in the station, supports with anti-vibration rubber isolators were installed.

One of the services now offered to the Serbian public is a new information system adapted to people to are hard-of-hearing, developed by young Serbian IT specialists.

Within the building, passengers have 12 travellators and 10 lifts at their disposal, as well as 14 shops, ticket counters and machines, a pharmacy, a bank, a bakery, a restaurant, and a cafe, as well as currency exchange, car rental, and information desks, to name just a few. The office of the Tourist Organisation of Belgrade is also expected to open soon.

Moreover, the plan is to connect the airport with the new station by the end of 2027, in time for the beginning of the EXPO World Fair. It will be possible to reach the Prokop neighbourhood from the airport by train in 15-20 minutes.

The Belgrade Centre railway station is designed to serve around 40,000 passengers per day, equating to approximately 1.2 million passengers per month. The new building will have ten tracks and six platforms, with eight tracks and five platforms currently being in operation, as well as two car parks being built, with 150 parking spaces in total, in addition to bus and taxi stands being nearby. Today, around 330 trains pass through Prokop every day, 250 of which are passenger trains, with the remainder being freight trains.
