On 1-5 July 2024, the Moroccan National Railway Office (ONCF) and UIC hosted a series of online training sessions, which were attended by participants from 12 African countries, and focused on rolling stock maintenance topics presented by ONCF and UIC.
Training is at the heart of the UIC Africa Work Programme, with these sessions being one of the four organised annually by ONCF and UIC, with the others including safety training, track maintenance and railway project management sessions.
During this week, ONCF and UIC representatives presented common experiences and best practices in front of a responsive audience, which included representatives from Morocco, Tunisia, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Gabon and other countries.
The UIC session was presented by Laurent Frechede, Head of Rolling Stock and Energy, and Henri Tsukahara, Head of Labelling, and Senior Rolling Stock Advisor.
The presentation included general maintenance principles, outlining it alongside 5 different levels, as well as maintenance planning including different types and cycles, with entities in charge of maintenance (ECMs) also being explained.
