From 11 to 20 June 2025, the 13th edition of the Training Session on Railway Safety and Security was held in Rabat, Morocco. 17 participants, representing 10 railway undertakings from North, West and Central Africa attended the 2-week training session in Rabat, jointly organised by the Moroccan National Railways (ONCF) and UIC.
The programme covered key topics including:
- Track safety: maintenance and rehabilitation
- Level crossings
- Track surveillance: monitoring and control
- Positive safety culture as a core component of a rail safety system
In addition, the programme included six technical visits.
The UIC session, held remotely, included the following presentations from:
- Frédéric Henon, Freight, Operations and Safety Manager, discussed the work of the Safety Platform. He also announced that UIC Rail Academy is offering two training modules on safety culture, and human and organisational factors, which have been developed using the knowledge and materials generated through the Safety Platform and other projects.
- Virginie Papillault, Safety Culture and Organisational Factors Manager, outlined the work carried out by the Human and Organisational Factors Working Group (HOFWG), and the Occupational Health and Safety Group (OHSG). She then presented the Safety Culture Peer Review activities coordinated by UIC, and introduced, in more detail, the two new training modules, highlighting their operational focus and use of practical cases studies.
- Iryna Polzikova, Safety Performance Group Coordinator and UIC Safety Database Manager, reviewed the activities and topics related to the UIC Safety Database. She discussed the UIC Safety Report, dynamic dashboards, and the Safety Barriers Library taskforce.
