UIC has launched a railway resilience group, following the successful completion of the first two projects of the RERA (Resilient Railways) family, the results of which can be downloaded here:

Resilient Railways facing High Temperatures

Resilient Railways facing Heavy Rains

The group welcomes a broad representation from all regions, including infrastructure managers, operators of freight, passenger services, associations, academia and regulators alike. The group meets every two months for thematic meetings, usually online and once a year in person. The first thematic meeting will focus on “KPIs and data: quantitative approaches for measuring the resilience of rail networks” and will be held on 5 June at 14:00 (CEST) and will focus on how to measure resilience using KPIs.

The aim of this session is to share best practice, identify current limitations in resilience measurement, and explore how these challenges are being addressed across different countries. The meeting is an open and collaborative space with three presentations from railway organisations followed by a general discussion.

"Building on the momentum and strong network built in RERA Rain and RERA Temp projects, we are hearing a strong interest to share knowledge and clearly undertsand the challenges and solutions we have collectively, we are hoping for a truly global group pf experts to join the conversation" Lucie Anderton, Director for Sustainability at UIC.

Participation in the group this year is free of charge. Next year, it will form part of an optional project that would start in 2026, to be presented at the workshop on 14 May 2025 (RERA HUB). Participation in 2025 does not commit to future participation.
