On 19 February, the UIC Terminology Group successfully held its 2026 Annual Meeting in Paris and online. This event formally relaunched UIC terminology activities, setting the stage for future collaborative efforts and marking an important step forward after a short absence. For the first time, after several years of prolonged online meetings, the Group convened both online and in person, reviving in-person engagement.

A key focus was discussions surrounding the new organisational structure (Terms of Reference) to address growing interest in terminology within the UIC community and align with the Work Programme 2026–2028. The meeting also featured an exclusive one-hour Information Session, open to Working Group Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and UIC staff, to highlight the role of terminology in standardisation and promote broader awareness of its importance and basic principles.

This edition underscored the objective to foster synergy between UIC working groups and the Terminology Group, ensuring alignment on terminology matters, as well as highlighting the transversal critical role of terminology for the railway sector and the need for unified efforts in shaping the future of UIC terminology work.
