An important step forward has been made in DIGIM II (Connected Level Crossing) with the completion of the first phase of the project in partnership with Dassault Systèmes.
The results and specifications of the first phase of the project have been presented and disseminated to the members of the project. DIGIM II is supported by eight UIC members: SNCF (France), Network Rail (United Kingdom), SBB (Switzerland), Ferrovie dello stato Italiane (Italy), Infraestruturas de Portugal (Portugal) , RAI (Iran), CARS – Chinese Academy of Railway Sciences (China) and VIA Rail (Canada). The project is implemented in partnership with Dassault Systèmes [1].
At the end of this first phase of DIGIM II, an example of a simplified conceptual architecture for an advanced driver assistance system, which makes cars act more safely around level crossings, was designed and simulated using the 3DEXPERIENCE® Platform [2].
Plans to initiate the second phase of the project are now underway.
In the next phase of DIGIM II, the project members will identify an industrial partner, either an automotive OEM or an automotive supplier, to discuss opportunities and the strategy to develop a new ADAS to improve safety and security at level crossings.
Another activity will involve working with safety automotive and truck standardisation organisations to examine opportunities to create a new standard to increase level crossing safety with the new ADAS.
