The UIC Africa Security Taskforce Kick-off meeting was held online on 17 May 2024.
Two presentations were given:
- An overview of the tools offered by the UIC Security Division, presented by Marie-Hélène Bonneau, Head of the Security Division
- A guided overview of the UIC Rail Security Hub presented by Grigore Havarneanu, Senior Security Research Advisor
The participants received an in-depth look at the Rail Security Hub and were able to familiarise themselves with its content and structure. Several examples of security solutions were shown, and the participants learned how to search for specific information in the tool.
Discussions then focused on topics of interest for Africa including the principle threats such as metal theft, cyber threats, and sabotage, as well as their main interests such as organising security within railways, security innovation, and crisis management.
As part of the UIC Africa Security Taskforce programme, an in-person event will be organised next year in Africa together with a member (to be defined) of the Region on the topic of crisis management.
