The annual Finance Platform Plenary meeting was held on 5 June 2023 and was chaired by Stefano Pierini from FS group, the Chair of the Finance Platform, assisted by Chakib Metennani, UIC CFO and Finance Platform Plenary Coordinator.
In his opening speech, François Davenne discussed a new dimension to the Finance Platform, where a working group on analysing effective mechanisms for financing railways will be launched. The main stakeholders will include railway operators, banks and other industry stakeholders. The group is expected to launch its work in September 2023.
During the plenary, the ongoing work and action plan were presented by the moderators of the Finance Platform working groups:
- RCF 1 - passenger accounting group
- RCF 2 - freight accounting group
- RCF 3 - group governing the rules of financial relations between companies
- Taxation group
- Debt group
- Legal group
A guest speaker, Lucie Anderton, Head of Sustainability at UIC, presented a study on ‘Climate Finance for Rail’, which UIC is developing jointly with Alstom, the Word Bank, and the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE), which will be presented at COP28.
