On 9 December 2023, RSR visited UIC HQ to establish possibilities for working together.

Both sides exchanged views on respecting working programmes, highlighting the UIC Safety Unit’s activities, especially in the areas of level crossing risk assessment, common safety barrier definitions, ILCAD, as well as the UIC Africa region’s activities and the UIC report on drones. RSR suggested several areas for collaboration with UIC, including new incoming functions for the Regulator and National Railway Policy. RSR proposed that the UIC Safety Unit set up a 1-day training module on Safety Leadership and SMS/Safety Culture during the International Rail Safety Council (IRSC) which will take place in South Africa, on 1-6 October 2023. These modules would be implemented within the framework of the UIC Africa Safety Task Force.
