Christian Chavanel, UIC Railway System Director, and Mercedes Gutiérrez Ferrándiz, Head of the UIC Asset Management, Infrastructure and Train Track Interaction (TTI) Sectors, visited the School of Civil Engineering Studies at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid on 19 April. They met teaching staff from the Railway Department to discuss how new generations can face the future of railways. They were received by the new Director of the School, José Miguel Atienza Riera, who highlighted the role of young engineers in today’s world. They also visited the recently opened Museum Torres Quevedo and took a guided tour, observing the pioneering engineering inventions of Manuel Romana García.

Ms Gutiérrez explained UIC’s role, its Vision 2030 and the objectives of the UIC Railway System Department, including capacity optimisation, improved operational quality and customer service, and innovation. Railway System has been collaborating with three student trainees from the university : Antonio Gimenez Macías, Jesús Palma Béjar and Ignacio Presa Cárdenas. They explained their experience with UIC and encouraged current students to apply for UIC opportunities for the next academic year.

UIC would like to Clara Zamorano Martin, Luis Esteras Aldea, Juan Gómez Sánchez and Carlos Romero Morales from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid for organising the visit, and is keen to continue the collaboration between the two entities.
