Technology

"New Technologies" working group

Chaired by SNCF (France) since April 2023

New technological proposals are constantly being presented by industry to enhance the security of persons, goods and installations. The importance of developing the ability to gain an overview of such proposals and assess the advantages they may represent and their suitability to the specific requirements of the rail sector has been confirmed. In addition, the European Commission in particular has launched various research projects and programmes – it would be in the interest of railway companies to be involved in these from an early stage.
Two aspects will be considered:

  • protection of stations including in particular “intelligent” CCTV, analysis of suspicious or abandoned objects, consideration of security risks when deciding on materials and designing spaces,
  • protection of tracks, with special focus on identification or detection of suspicious objects placed between or in the vicinity of tracks, relating to high speed lines in particular
